I’ve always loved music festivals. My mom used to bring me to concerts all the time as a kid (starting with Bon Jovi and Skid Row at the tender age of 5) and outdoor festivals were my favorite. I still remember setting up shop on a blanket on the outskirts of the park, my bare feet dancing in the grass to the sounds of bands like Chicago, Earth Wind & Fire and Night Ranger as the hot sun fell down below the horizon and gave way to flashing, colorful lights. Though Atlas is still probably too young to remember, I love getting to share that experience with him now. It makes me feel a little more connected to those moments with my own mom and dad so long ago–though compared to how WE once saw shows, this kid has GOT IT MADE.
This weekend, we left Brooklyn to hike up north a bit and check out Husboy and Coheed at Rock ‘N Derby in Schaghticoke. As the band’s families expand, it’s becoming so much fun to have everyone together at shows like this. Add in a bunch of old friends/long lost crew members, a rogue late afternoon storm and an appearance from Ghost? Home run.
